Disillusioned with the Arcane Fandom.
I can't quite explain it, but I find myself bitter and jaded towards other fans of this show, and I'm adamant in my belief that Arcane is a show that deserves a better class of fans.
The bitterness is something I've been feeling since season one, when it became clear to me that the community that sprung up around the show is not much different from the fandoms for other animated series, where annoying goofy bullshit takes precedence over anything resembling productive contributions or discussion. And now, with the show over and the exhaustion of relevant talking points, that feeling is compounded.
Whenever I look at the subreddit now, I can't help but feel irritated. It feels largely void of worthwhile contribution, outside of fanart or cosplay, which I continue to enjoy seeing. It's rare to get a post worth interacting with. Maybe that's just my perspective, and maybe I should strive to make the contributions I want to see instead of bitching, but I felt the need to address it regardless.
Truth be told, I have no answer to this beyond "leave", which feels so defeatist. I love Arcane and, for a time, I enjoyed being a part of the community, so I don't want to just give up. But, whenever I see some unfunny, low-effort meme or an outright repost that is never dealt with, or when people come up with the same tired takes that somehow still do gangbusters for upvotes, or when I see that a comment section is full of people repeating the same nonsensical statements over and over again, I think to myself "Why bother?"
And this isn't limited to Reddit. I see the same things in places like Twitter, which I believe is really only good for looking at fanart at this point.
What do you think? I'd like to have a genuine discussion about this, rather than a series of smug non-answers from people who are to cowardly to be genuine in the first place.
