Good wines?

So I recently turned 18 and went to a bar for the first time last night. I’ve always been curious about wine because people treat it like it’s this really upscale and ‘prestigious’ drink, but I tried it and I really didn’t like it. It just tastes bitter and has a really chalky mouthfeel, which I definitely did not enjoy. This isn’t the first time I’ve tried wine, and the one other time I did I had a similar experience.

Basically I’m wondering if I’m just drinking cheap wines or if most wines will have that taste. If there are any good wines out there, please let me know so I can actually have a good wine experience T-T
