Why can’t we be great?
Why can’t we ever be great like tu? I mean we have the resources, we just aren’t utilizing them properly. The goal of a flagship state university should be to rigorously educate the masses. That means no more lackadaisical curves and care free grade distributions. That means adopting the same grading system UT and MIT have (yes they are very close and in the same league). Yes we should make public education accessible, and admit a lot more people than The University of Texas @ Austin does, I’m not disagreeing with that, but once you get into Texas A&M it should be significantly harder for you to stay in your program than you might expect. In my view the goal of a public university should be to give almost everybody a second chance at transforming themselves with the tools of academics. If they don’t put any effort in, they should lose their spot here. We should make it extraordinarily hard to get a degree here. That will raise the prestige level while at the same time fix some of the crowding issues brought about by 30 by 30 and then 40 by 40 in the future while at the same time also giving everybody a second chance so we fulfill our purpose as a flagship. I honestly don’t care about admit rates. Let’s just admit as many as we can, but raise the rigor. That way we won’t have to be a little brother anymore!
