Discussion - My thoughts on the current Hololive Collab
I copy-pasted this from where I originally wrote it in the Official Discord Server. Feel free to discuss it.
This event, in my opinion, is the ultimate symbol of the disconnect between WG and the playerbase. Wargaming introduces a poorly-planned collaboration with a group that the playerbase doesn’t care about or actively dislikes, coupled with mediocre rewards that make it next to worthless.
To be clear, I don’t care that it’s Hololive they’re collaborating with. As long as it’s not war criminals, murderers, or child groomers (something something Dr Disrespect), I don’t care who exactly they choose to do that with. The issue is how this collaboration just… fails to connect to the community.
Firstly, the rewards suck. Some avatars that nobody wants to use, some stale, lifeless profile backgrounds, and a mediocre at best legendary camo are the most that you’ll get. Oh, and a garage decoration, which few people really care about anyways.
Second, WG didn’t really read the playerbase when it came to introducing their next collab. Of the notable collaborations Blitz has had with other media and franchises, most fit in. Girls und Panzer? Literally an anime about girls driving tanks. Dune? A book/movie series about the politics and warfare of another world. TMNT? A well-known franchise enjoyed by many people of various age groups. Hololive? A group of VTubers that the majority of the playerbase (made up of children, mind you) does not know about. Worse yet, the Blitz playerbase has an unfortunate tendency towards the sort of Anti-Anime and Anti-Furry culture that currently permeates many online spaces. While some (like myself) don’t mind it, many people do. The devs just decided to introduce an element that much of the playerbase would be indifferent or hostile to. It’s not like they even fit it in with the core part of the game - the tanks. It’s just slapped onto the garage screen and gives you personal cosmetics and storage fillers.
I hope that WG learns from this. I want a good event that people enjoy, not the random slop we were given.
