Have you completed the Manitoba Correctional Officer/Juvenile Counsellor Training Program?

Has anyone gone through the application or training process for these positions with the MB Gov? I'm curious about the process and your experience. Did/do you like it? Would you recommend? Best and worst parts? Anything else?

It seems odd to me that they don't pay for the month of mandatory training. I'd expect they'd get more skilled people allying if they did. I guess I assume the majority of people who are able to apply (read who are able to have a month of no income) are pretty young and living at home with parents.

Seeing as it's such a large time commitment I'd like to hear experiences from people who have experienced it.

What was the training like? What kinds of things does it include?

What was the work environment and work place culture like?

I'm sure both roles, counsellor and correctional officer are very emotionally challenging. Are there internal supports for debriefing when needed? What does that look like?

Are these one role, or two different roles? The job advert doesn't make it clear.

What is the culture like toward men/women?

Lastly, they always seem to be hiring. I take that as a red flag. What are your insights about that?

Thank you!
