[nato straps] How common is spring bar failure in practice?

People often say that a benefit of NATO straps is the extra security in case a spring bar fails.

I've worn watches daily for years, being pretty rough with some of them. I've had dings and scratches on some cases and crystals but never any spring bar failures.

Have I just been lucky or are spring bar failures pretty rare in practice? Have you had one break on you?
