What made you come back to watch again
Im fairly new at posting on the board but wanted to discuss with others like me what made you come back to watch WWE. I Reminsce a bit sorry.
I will go first. In my family watching wrestling was multi generational. As kids we would cut promos of our favorite wrestlers as Aunts, Uncles, Parents,Grandparents etc all flipped between watching us during the commercial breaks and then watching the show. We gathered like the Super Bowl for the PPVs.
My family is of mixed political affiliation as was and is most families who watch. This is to say it has 0 political affiliation. People of every background watch.
My favorite era is the attitude era. The era I disliked the most was Ruthless Agression.
As a young girl I can remember being asked by my cousins which wrestler I was going to be for my Promo. I chose Andre the Giant. They got a good kick out of this tiny girl choosing him but also were quick to tell me "Your a girl. You can't pick him"
My mother looked over at me silently and while at the time I didn't understand the look I did years later. It would be a look I gave my daughter when a similar situation happened
The reality hit me when I watched my daughter donning her "promo gear" (random items from around the house they put together for their look, sunglasses, robes, a pull up over her tights- you can get the picture) she looked fabulous. When her brother asked her who she was and declared he was Rey Mysterio she gave a name alright but it was one of her own.
Her brother said "no you can't be a new wrestler pick one of them"
She looked at me and in that moment it hit me. There wasn't any woman she wanted to be. It's sad to say it but the women at that time were being portrayed in very bad ways and over sexualized. I was suddenly a little girl all over again understanding my mother's swift look towards me.
I changed the rules in my house. I recorded wrestling then we would watch the recording. This allowed me to customize what my kids seen and didnt see.
One night while watching I was chopping up vegetables. The kids were away with their grandma that night. Vince was trying to make a woman kiss his a.. on National TV. The Rocks music hits and it was truly in that moment I actually became a fan of his. I dropped the knife on the counter and ran to the TV! I was so excited Vince was getting his just dues sort of. This was a powerful moment.
Anyway funny times. But I ended up not watching anymore and would tune in for big shows or specific runs. I always hoped something would change.
When TKO bought the company and The Rock was announced to the board I came back full time glued to my seat. I have always admired his Girl dad style and just how truly genuine he is and felt that the company would get better with him playing some role.
For the first time in a very long time my family sat once again, multi generational watching WM 40. My Aunt even deleted me on social media for calling her a Cody Crybaby for a week🤣😅
I'm proud of the leaps and bounds women have made in the industry!
