HELP w these vents and hooking

HELP me PLEASE I need to get into the vent overhead in the office and I just can't. I know you're supposed to use a hook, stand on a desk and hook it to the inside part of the vent. I even went as far as to drag and prop up a crate so I'm closer to the vent than if I were to use a chair. I hook, I reel in, I dangle like an idiot. Every time. Dangle dangle. How do I get up there? I've been doing nothing but this for 2 in game days...
