Is this all one big Grift?

Seeing all the buildup and hype surrounding this. It all just feels like the talking heads are leading us to their grand grift more than any form of disclosure. Like have they all gotten together in order to make us all go crazy or buildup the fact that there is really nothing to this in order to scare our enemies, or the multitude of reasons from a national security standpoint that a government may do this. Or am I just a pessimist?
