6K cinema camera guy following up on my NJ drone excursion on Dec. 15th
Went in to Newark around 5:45pm where a good friend of mine picked me up and we headed out to Freehold to his parent’s house. They live 2 minutes from Naval Weapons Station Earle. Driving out of Newark there was a lot of action in the sky, but all airplanes from what I could discern, all flying in or out of Newark Airport. The weather really sucked, at the range of getting a good closeup of a low flying plane - sometimes they would fly right into cloud cover and disappear completely. Very overcast.
We pulled up to Earle around 7pm, accidentally driving into the base and got stopped and ID-ed but they were cool about it. We noticed a bunch of guys there in one of the buildings in the front, like at least 20 ppl. We left and drove across the street and filmed a quick interview ( my buddy is a NYC tour guide so we wanted to make some content for his channel reporting on the drones ). We had stopped at my buddy’s parents house briefly where a small airplane flew overhead, I could see it was a small plane. On the way to Earle and leaving Earle, it was extremely quiet in the sky. Didn’t see anything.
We took our search to the Manasquan Reservoir for a wide view of the sky and pulled over to do another interview bit. Nothing in the sky til the end we caught a glimpse of something and decided to follow it. Didn’t last long, so many damn trees and cloud cover.
We wandered for a bit until we would see something and then try to chase. Sometimes we’d get a good glimpse, but again all airplanes from what I could tell. A few things we weren’t able to get ahead of driving.
Finally took our search to the coast to a small beach / lookout called Cliffwood beach overlooking Manhattan in the distance. Lots of planes coming in and out, great wide view of the whole area.
Long story short, nothing of note last night. I think the weather really dampened things for us as well as limiting our search. We spent 6 hours driving around Freehold and surrounding areas. Wish we could have hit more but I needed to be back to catch a train to NYC around midnight.
I will be back to Jersey for the holidays, I will bring my gear with me — I’ll be in cherry hill area for a few days after next weekend. Will continue the search.
I know if I can just get close enough, I can capture a great close up of one of these things.
Linked the video here, again, nothing of note. Mostly planes or unidentified stuff that was too far away.
