my daughter's applying to med school- men keep asking if she'll be a nurse. Frustrating.

So, my daughter just graduated college and is in the middle of med school applications.

It gets brought up in conversations, at her job (for a plasma donation center), or during volunteer work (EMT and hospice).

More often than not, if she's talking to a man, they assume she means nursing. And it's like- who doesn't know at this point that med school = doctors and nursing school = nurses? It's gotta be bias, right? Especially since it's almost entirely men making the error. I guess I'm just surprised there's still people thinking a woman in medicine must be a nurse when half of med school students are women now.

Anyway, my daughter was getting super frustrated when she first started her job and it was happening fairly often. Now, she doubles down and mentions her plans to be a forensic pathologist and perform autopsies. It usually ends the conversation.

Eta- wow, this got a lot more replies than I was expecting. Thank you everyone for sharing your support and experiences!

Note- since I've seen it mentioned several times, my daughter usually gets these questions from donors (ie customers) at her work. As in "are you in college" or "do you have a degree." So she has to be polite. But I've seen so many good options for replies.
