Old chat messages randomly got deleted

I used a chat with myself to save some videos, but out of nowhere today all messages before October 6th have disappeared. Messages before October 17th have also been deleted in a years-long chat with a friend. Did this happen to anyone else? Is there any way to solve it? It was fine until today, and the old messages still show up on an old phone I stopped using recently.
