Confusion over first love trope

I see this all over social media how it's toxic for shows where characters end up with their first love (people who dislike Bonrad obviously) and how it's encouraging young people to not grow etc etc. But isn't Jeres first love Belly? So then Jere shouldn't end up with Belly either..
