Koh Tao & Koh Phangan update?

My partner and I are currently in Prachuap Khiri Khan. The plan was to go down to Chumphon tomorrow and get the ferry to Tao. On the 23rd, we'd get a ferry to Phangan for 6 days. We have all of that booked and probably can't get anything refunded so would prefer to still go but obviously if it isn't safe or won't be as enjoyable then we'll make other plans. I've seen information on the floods over the last few days and I've seen some people say it's basically fine now so I just had some questions on that.

  • Are the ferries going to be horrible and choppy still?
  • If the water has drained, are the streets drivable or are they covered in mud etc? Would like to get scooters but not confident on dodgy roads.
  • Is the water by beaches for snorkelling/diving clean or is there sewage runoff from the flood?
  • Might be a daft one but even things like using washing machines, won't water be contaminated still?

Also, I saw that one post on the noravirus issue in Tao. We're not staying in hostels but can't tell if it's a big enough issue to just go straight to Phangan

Hopefully Phangan will have had a few more days to improve but any information on Phangan is appreciated.

To be honest, it feels dumb to be going south when there's still flood warnings. As of yesterday, Pattayamail says Phangan is still a disaster zone. We'd probably head to the west coast afterwards (maybe via Khao Sok) so otherwise, we'll go straight there.
