Terratech Advice

I saw the other post and figured I could also share some things I discovered/observed these past couple of weeks.

----

  • [R] + [Left Click] places a block directly in your inventory. You can spam this at enemy Techs to collect dislodged blocks before they explode, including missiles and other valuables.
  • You can scale walls and extreme slopes via hitbox manipulation while using the Build Beam [B]. Simply add a line of blocks to the bottom or relevant side of your Tech.
  • Keep in mind lever forces and friction during wheel placement. They should be as far to the side as possible, wheels in the center don't turn as well and actively hinder movement via friction.
  • While most players are familiar with mugging Wingnut, no one ever seems to mention the GSO Missile Launcher(s) that can be acquired in the SAM Site mission from Agent POW. It can be used to eliminate minor aerial threats (Better Future Gangs) and other fast nuisances.
  • For better performance, don't install lights on your Tech. The FPS will visibly worsen at night.
  • Enemy Techs are programmed to be weaker than you.
  • Build Beam neutralizes fall damage, use it when you can't be bothered to land aircraft properly. Note that you can switch Techs midair.
  • Your Techs and NPCs will occasionally despawn if you are far enough away. In the latter case, this probably means the mission is soft-locked. Note that you can still see their icons on the map.
  • Batteries lose charge in your inventory, don't put them away unless absolutely necessary.
  • Blocks don't despawn if you keep a Tech nearby. A single cab or an anchor will suffice.
  • Hollow Techs consume less energy when damaged, this is because the repair bubble has to repair less blocks. It also means your Tech is lighter and easier to modify later on.
  • You can obtain invincible blocks in Campaign Mode when a Neutral Tech falls under your control, but the icon doesn't change from orange to blue. Note that Techs with an orange icon don't appear in the Tech Manager [`].
  • Try to avoid anchoring large Techs in areas where they will clip into the ground. Unanchoring there will cause damage to your chassis, use Build Beam to relocate elsewhere.
  • Don't "steal" Tech designs. Creating your own Tech is a major part of this game, by circumventing this mechanic you are surrendering part of the experience. But then again, I had several years to plan out my builds before I got my hands on this game, so feel free to disregard this opinion.
