Awkward Encounter on a Delhi Bus: Is Kindness Too Much to Ask?"
I was on a bus in Delhi, exhausted after a long day at college. You know those days when all you want to do is sit back, close your eyes, and let the world blur into the background? That was me. I found a seat, leaned back to take a light nap.
Next to me was a guy with his girlfriend, who was wearing a burqa. I wasn’t paying them much attention—I was too tired to notice what was happening around me. I just wanted to catch a moment of rest before my stop came.
Now, here’s where things got weird. When their stop was approaching, the guy needed me to move a bit so they could get off more easily. But instead of just nudging me or politely asking me to shift, he muttered something that jolted me awake. Loud enough for me to hear, he said, "Gandu utha nahi raha hai".
At first, I thought I’d misheard him, but nope—it was crystal clear. The words hit my ears like a slap. I opened my eyes and stared at him, not saying a word but making sure he knew I’d heard every bit of it. For a second, there was this awkward silence between us. what kind of person thinks it’s okay to call someone names just because they’re too tired to move immediately?
I shifted to let them pass, but that whole interaction stuck with me. It wasn’t just about the word he used—it was the sheer lack of decency in how he handled such a simple situation. A polite “Excuse me” would have been enough, but instead, I got this unnecessary rudeness thrown my way.
It’s moments like these that make me wonder how people can be so inconsiderate. Was it really so hard for him to be kind? The bus ride continued, but I couldn’t shake off the uneasyness of it all. Edit: Reposting my post here because askindia sub removed my post for irrational reason.
