Worried about the federal funding freeze

Hey everyone, in case you haven't heard, the Trump administration ordered a freeze on all federally funded loans, grants, and other aid, which if I'm not mistaken includes Americorps (and TFA as well I think, they receive federal grants). I know this news is recent and I'm unsure how it will play out, but is anyone else worried this could impact our credentialing/degree progress? I asked my coach about it and they let me know that the news is still fresh and hopefully they or TFA in general will send out information.

How much money does TFA receive through federal grants and what is that money used for?

-Our understanding at the moment is that the pause on federal grants could impact trillions of dollars in federal spending. We're working to understand the impact on our work at TFA and the impact on the students and communities we work alongside. TFA has a diverse funding base, and receives the bulk of its funding from private sources, not the federal government. We do receive some federal funds and support, most notably through AmeriCorps, and our corps members and alumni receive AmeriCorps Education Awards directly from AmeriCorps.

How will corps members who receive AmeriCorps support be impacted?

-We're working to understand the impact of this pause on our AmeriCorps grants and the Education Awards that corps members receive directly. We know that the majority of those funds are used for new teacher certification costs. Without this funding, new corps members will face an additional financial obstacle to becoming the teachers that their students and communities critically need right now. TFA - as we have always done - will continue to advocate for that critical funding for corps members and the communities they serve.

I'm a current corps member. Does the new pause on grants and loans affect me?

-We are working to understand what the impact of the halt on funding will be on individual corps members. The pause on federal grants impacts trillions of dollars in federal funding and thousands of programs, and as we learn more we will communicate any impact directly to you and your fellow corps members, and work to support you as best we can.
