I break my science labs down into such small parts that you don’t even have to know anything about the subject matter to do them and kids STILL struggle (9th grade).
I swear it’s only slight hyperbole to say that if I broke these labs down any further, I’d be splitting the atom.
I’ve gotten to the point now, where I just tell kids it’s in the instructions. Read the instructions for the kids who can’t read, I read it to them.
And then they whine and complain and say they don’t understand. They want me to give them the answer they don’t like being lead to it. Miraculously understand the instructions when the marking period is over and they’re failing my class because they didn’t do the labs but now they understand them and want to turn them in.
