Have we really reached this point?

I put on a film as it's the last day of class and we finished up Poetry. (So we're watching Dead Poets.) Only a good 2/3rds of the class is even paying attention, and I know who is going to complain about it, the students who aren't even watching it. I'm so tired of trying to do these things that used to be fun only for them to shoot it down, or for them to just not pay any attention to it. Do they not care anymore? Are we at this point where students would rather I not interact with them at all? I have to mark this as humor otherwise I'll cry.

Edit: the phone doesn't bother me. The students on their phones are usually quiet and not disruptive. It's the talkers.
