Formation of Food is Free 253
We are thrilled to announce the formation of Food is Free 253, a new nonprofit organization that will serve as a fiscal sponsor for Food is Free Tacoma and other local chapters in Pierce County. With 501(c)(3) status in the works, Food is Free 253 will empower grassroots food justice initiatives by providing administrative and funding support. This marks a big step forward in creating a sustainable network of community-focused programs.
Seed Starting: Growing Together
Winter is the perfect time to prepare for spring planting. This month, we’ve started seeds for cabbage, cauliflower, and collards to provide early starts for our community gardens and partner organizations. These crops will ensure an abundant harvest in the months to come, reinforcing our commitment to making fresh, healthy food accessible to all
Peppers for the People Project
2025 marks the first year of the Peppers for the People project. Designed with apartment dwellers in mind, this initiative offers compact pepper plants ideal for limited space. Through this project, we aim to empower urban residents to grow their own food, no matter how small their living spaces. Stay tuned for more details on distribution and community workshops!
Appearance on CityLine
Mark your calendars! We’ll be appearing on CityLine soon to demonstrate soil testing techniques and share insights on maintaining healthy gardens. Proper soil health is crucial for growing nutritious food, and we can’t wait to pass on this knowledge to the Tacoma community. Be sure to tune in and join us!
Looking Ahead
As we gear up for another productive year, we remain dedicated to building strong partnerships and fostering a culture of generosity and sustainability. We couldn’t do this without your ongoing support. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
Here’s to a fruitful 2025 filled with growth, community, and good food! Stay tuned for more updates and ways to get involved.
