If You Had to Teach, What Would it Be?
It’s that time of year when schools desperately ask if I’d like a full-time position. The positions vary and some even sound interesting — for a day or two.
After trying full-time teaching and falling into a major depressive episode from dealing with the insane amount of work, coupled with classroom management — the answer is always a friendly, “No”. I’ll be honest, I left my classroom one day and never went back. Not my most shiningest moment, but my mental health made it mandatory. Jumping off a bridge seemed like a viable option at the time. My therapist was like, “Either I call them for you to quit, or you call them..”
Fast forward, it still bugs me that teaching isn’t for me. Teachers are so brilliant and the ones I worked with seemed so happy. I know it’s a calling, not a job. I have so much respect for teachers.
I figured if I had to teach, the only class I’d likely survive is music. I love the sound of children singing. It moves me to my core. I have no formal education in music, so this is all purely hypothetical.
What subject, if you had to teach, would you teach?
