Zhang Jijun
First of all, I’m not a fan of Zhang Jijun. I’ve only voted for Shao Ziheng, and I don’t have any strong emotional attachment to this show. However, some people’s attitude toward Zhang Jijun is just over the top. He doesn’t have any scandals. He’s aware of his shortcomings, so he works incredibly hard. Even when he had a herniated disc so bad that he couldn’t stand up straight—or even stand at all—he kept practicing. His roommates tried to persuade him to quit the show, but he refused to give up. And it’s not like he ever plays the sympathy card—these details were shared by his eliminated roommates during a livestream on Weibo. Why does he keep pushing himself? Because he genuinely loves dancing. Like every other trainee, he has a dream of becoming an idol.
Some people say he’s not talented enough and doesn’t deserve such a high ranking. But if you’ve watched other survival shows, you’d know they’re always about who has the most fans and the strongest purchasing power. Being able to attract fans is a skill in itself. The fact that Zhang Jijun has gained so many fans is proof of that. It’s not his fault he’s popular. iQiyi isn’t stupid—they know which contestants have fans willing to spend money.
Also, Zhang Jijun’s high ranking only shows how niche this show is, with a very shallow voting pool. If you don’t want him to debut, then focus on voting for your own pick. Complaining and criticizing him won’t achieve anything—it’ll just provoke his fans to vote for him even more out of spite(虐粉). If you’ve followed Chinese survival shows before, you’d know how powerful spite-driven fans can be. Don’t push his fans so hard that they end up voting him into the top three out of sheer defiance.
