Running a separate inverter and charger - good idea?

I'm replacing a deceased inverter/charger and hoping to extend battery life by downsizing from 2000w to 1000w. The idle draw of the old one was excessive. We have no appliances -- just lights, ceiling fans, device charging, etc., so 1000w should be plenty.

Trouble is nobody seems to make 1000w inverter/chargers. (We run solar, but sometimes run a generator on cloudy days, so need an AC charger.) There are LOTS of 1000w inverter-only units on the market of course. Does anyone have experience running a separate inverter and charger? Any downside to this? It seems cheaper than inverter/chargers, oddly. Even Victron chargers are inexpensive.

Thanks for any input or product recommendations! New to this forum and so there's no much good advice in the archive here.

(System is 2x12v lead acid, 400w panels, 30A mppt controller.)
