Lab is prescribing Ambien for in-lab sleep study

I have my first ever in-lab sleep study coming up next month and the doctor said they usually suggest Ambien for all patients taking the study. I've never taken Ambien before. Should I take it for my sleep study? I'm guessing I'll have some trouble falling asleep, but should be able to sleep some without any pills.

I don't really take anything to fall asleep now. I was taking Trazadone a few weeks ago, but needed it only occasionally.

Should I take the Ambien? (I've done an at-home test that was inconclusive. Took half a Trazadone for that one). Thanks!
