The Psychology of Winning
I was reading an article about Josh Brolin and his new book. He was talking about his alcoholism and said something that I think is also appropriate here.
“It's a puzzle, the psychology of winning, no matter the consequences. I wanted what I wanted and that was my only concern. I'd been to jail more than a few times by then. I had put my kids in jeopardy. I had lost relationships and friendships. I knew that having a drink wouldn't make anything better, but was very likely to make any situation ultimately worse,"
The psychology of winning. Nothing else matters but being right. Even when you’re wrong you insist you’re right. Addiction is addiction. Whether to drugs, alcohol or in some cases, an addiction to your own trauma; nothing matters but winning. It doesn’t matter if, in fact you are failing. You’ll die on that hill, taking everyone down with you.
