First Marathon in 3 weeks, need recs
Ok, I got an email just two days ago accepting me to run in Chicago from the wait list. While my training has been ramping and I feel relatively ready from a fitness perspective, I need some recs on last minute gear things.
What’s the best pair of lined 3-5” shorts you’d recommend for race day? I don’t carry my phone but I do want fairly ample pockets for gels and chews. I prefer regular hand pockets as long as they’re fairly deep. Quick drying is also fairly important for me since I sweat a lot. I don’t care too much about style and I’m not super price sensitive since I only need 1 or 2 pairs.
Second: Chicago doesn’t allow hydration packs so I’m now scrambling to find the best handheld bottle for me. I’d like higher capacity (minimum 500ml but a little larger even better). I don’t care that much about insulation. I do however care about comfort in carrying and the ability to refill it super quickly at aid stations. A little storage probably nice but again I don’t carry my phone so this is more about gels and hydration sticks etc. I prefer faster flow and the less opening and closing of the nipple the better.
Finally, I’ve never generally run in a shirt. Do I need to wear a shirt for Chicago marathon or could I possibly attach bib to shorts? What do you recommend? If I need to wear a shirt, again, I’d love recs on the best race day singlet. Im 6’2” 235 and muscular so fit wise, keep that in mind. Thanks so much!
