Wartime hostage
TW for controversial and sensitive topic
A very unromantic movie {land of blood and honey} has caught my attention. It’s about war and what could have possibly been a good relationship between a Serbian man and a Muslim woman, but due to war and decisions made, it’s just sadness and anger and death. I’d like to read a romance that follows in the initial footsteps of this story: they meet before war (but can also see during or after) and she becomes either his hostage or reluctant relationship partner or war prize. I want to explore the differences in deeply rooted cultures and his and hers underlying hatred for each others beliefs. If there is pregnancy I’d love to see them explore if they feel conflicted about “offspring from this union” or if it makes them question their beliefs about how another population of people can be seen as “bad” but they are making allowances for this one person (and children).
I’d like to avoid fantasy/paranormal/sci-fi unless the world and characters are very similar to the real world and with character names and language that is easy to read. Those genres often times interrupt my reading progress because the names or new words they create are so jarring.
