Mistreated FMC flourishes after leaving with MMC, but her abuser(s) regret letting her go and pursue

I'm looking for recs where the FMC starts off mistreated by a lover, family, or society. After leaving with MMC she flourishes as she grows and overcomes her trauma. However, she ends up being pursued by her past abuser(s) because they regret letting her go, but not because they care about her. Instead it's about obsession or what she represents to them (e.g., abilities, beauty, social status).

A great example would be (ACOTAR series spoilers) the beginning of A Court of Mist and Fury when Rhysand calls in their "bargain" and Tamlin becomes unhinged (seriously, move on already dude!🙄). Another good example would be the Plated Prisoner series by Raven Kennedy. A couple of Penelope Barsetti's novels would also probably work.

Bonus points if:

  • FMC is initially reluctant to go with MMC because he's known as a villain
  • MMC is a villain, but only to those outside his circle
  • The abuser was a past lover (consensual or not)
  • MMC forces the abuser(s) to let her go with him after witnessing the abuse

I'd prefer fantasy settings but sci-fi works too.

I don't really have any dislikes or trigger warnings (the darker the better actually!)

I tried searching the sub, but it's been hard to find the right keywords for my request. If you've come across similar threads I'd love a link! Otherwise, I hope this is specific enough. 🤞
