The skill level on this game now is crazy

I haven't played rocket league in about 3 years but decided to redownload it recently and goddamn, after grinding to lvl 20 and finishing my placements, I got Gold II. A bit low but ok. I started my first game and fucking hell, these golds are playing like champs 3 or 4 years ago, how did the skill level widen this much?

Edit: ladies and gentlemen, im writing this after getting slapped 13-1 in gold II, since when the fuck do these guys know how to speed flip
