Is the cultivation always dealing with bugs?

I’ve reached chapter 48 and the novel is decent so far. Usually these type of novels hook me with cultivation/goals. I heard that this mc was all about obtaining power so I was hoping to get hooked by a power fantasy.

Is that not what this book is about? I think the bugs are lame to be honest. Does it get better? Like badass, cool? I know that’s subjective but does the scale rise to super high levels? Like city destroying power, or is it just mostly centered on schemes?

Also he seems to be completely stoic about everything. Does he ever show emotion or true disappointment? Does he always just process everything like an emotionless computer? Think it might get boring for me
