Starting My Research Next Sunday - What to Expect
Hi All - recently came across this sub and wanted to put it to the test with some research I’ll be conducting on a test subject. The study begins next week, and I’m not 100% sure what to expect. The starting dose for the subject will likely be 2mg, increasing weekly by 1mg depending on observed effects.
That brings me to my main question: what "effects" should I be looking for? Will the subject report feeling full all the time, bloated if they overeat, repulsed by certain foods (like during a hangover when only greasy junk seems appetizing), or possibly experience nausea or acid reflux? How do you determine when the effective dose has been reached? I can't quite imagine it in my head despite reading reports.
I’ve seen anecdotal reports from others who have done similar studies with impressive results, even while sticking to less-than-ideal habits (e.g., McDonald's for dinner 3x a week, yet still losing weight). I doubt my research will be that simple, but it’s interesting to hear about.
Regarding lifestyle changes, the subject plans to work out 3-4x per week, combining HIIT with weighted lifts (think F45-style fitness), depending on energy levels. If energy levels are up, great—if not, I assume caloric intake will need adjustment. Should the subject carefully track every calorie using something like MyFitnessPal, or do results tend to come naturally by eating based on hunger cues? I also know protein intake needs to be prioritized, so I’ve stocked up on protein bars and shakes in case whole foods aren’t sufficient and will be tracked daily. Hoping to not have to track every bit of food on MyFitnesspal as I've not succeeded in maintaining that for more than a few months in the past. Are there specific foods or ingredients that should be avoided entirely? Any dietary strategies to maintain muscle while targeting fat loss would be helpful.
As for the research protocol, the study will run for six months. The subject's starting stats are 5'11", 235 lbs, with a goal weight of 195-200 lbs by the end of the study.
If anyone has critiques, pointers, supplement recommendations, or tips for optimizing the approach, I’d greatly appreciate it! Just tossing this out there to gather as much valuable input as possible. Thanks!
EDIT: Will plan on sticking with 2mg and up monthly thanks to feedback. I was informed that due to short half-life, one could up this weekly based on how I'm responding. Noted!
Also plan on having pepto, tums, zofran, and a supplement for more regular movement on hand in case of intense GI sides.
