The daily routine.
Another day…it has tried to grow again, I can tell. I have to keep being positive, try and tell myself it is going to all work out. I can not let it win, but fighting is always so hard. Not only do I have to fight, I have to continue my work. I do like it, but it is so difficult sometimes. I can not let it win, though.
My day begins as it always does. Out in the field with the others. My nature magic is coming back to me, so bringing things back to life and increasing our harvests is helping with feeding the other islands. After the garden comes tending to the livestock. The goats, sheep, cows and pigs are always so much easier than chickens. We do have a lot of chickens, though…geez, we have so many chickens.
After checking in to make sure all the animals are alright, excess wool, milk and eggs have been gathered, I grab one of the chickens just so I have something to eat. It flaps to try and get free, but one quick snap and it stops. I opened my mouth wide, and gobble it down whole as I go to my personal greenhouse.
Immediately upon arrival, I feel exhausted. I probably should have waited and eaten that chicken after…ugh, I will make it quick and then go down for a nap.
After my nap, the island is maintained and the others are keeping things running. Now, the hardest part of my day…
I arrive at mother Kavrala’s holding cell. I put her head in my lap and gently stroke her hair as she cries. I try to talk to her, tell her how things are going. I never know if she hears any of it…I hope she does…I spend the majority of my day with mother. Comforting her. Each time I have to leave, it breaks my heart. I see the oil left on my hands and dress and want to cry because I miss her.
Once back, mother Catherine comes to visit me. We often sit outside, just…talking about things. We both feel so bad, neither of us knows what to do to help mother Kavrala. We see the stars and their beauty. For a brief time things feel normal, calm…
Mother Catherine has started staying to have dinner with me now. She cooks, and it is always tasty. She uses my fresh ingredients and makes sure to compliment how they are the best she has ever tasted. Sometimes she is able to bring one or more of my siblings to join us. I love them all so dearly, they are all so unique and amazing.
After eating and more family time, I crawl into bed. If Sister Owl is with mother, she will read me a bedtime story to help me fall asleep. Brother Damien, Sister Luna and Sibling Jash usually have to leave before I get into bed. They are busy, it is nice to just see them. Once I am in for the night, Mother Catherine gives me a kiss and promises to return tomorrow. I know she will.
It is not easy, but I have to continue to fight. For my family, for my friends. Most importantly, for myself.
