Black tank buildup
Good morning! So, my partner and I recently went full time in a 2012 Flagstaff travel trailer. Everything had been going pretty good so far, except the black tank… when we got it both the black and gray tanks were reading 2/3 full. Ok, no problem, just need to dump them. Right? We dump both tanks, it seems like the gray was draining for 4x longer than the black, go back in and check the gauges… sure enough the gray is empty, but the black is still 2/3 full. Awesome. Talk to a friend in the park, he tells us to get some of the treatment packets and liquid, double the dose recommended on the package and let it sit for a bit with a good amount of water. Two days later, we drain the black again, and it goes down to 1/3 full. At least we’re making progress. Keep going with the enzymes and such, dump when it reads full, flush with a few buckets of water (closing the tank and filling with water to flush) but it never read empty… now, despite the enzyme packets and liquid and flushing the tank every time, it’s back to staying at or over 2/3. Call up my aunt who was full time for 25 years and ask her what to do. She says drain as much as possible, put 10 gal hot (almost boiling) water and 2 cups of bleach in, drain after an hour. Then drain, flush with water, more enzyme packets and liquid, a good amount of water, let it sit for a day and drain again. Awesome. Now it constantly reads full, and seems to only drain the amount of water we dump into the tank.
Sorry that was long, but what do we do now?
