My experience with leep procedure
After having an abnormal pap and CIN3 from colposcopy biopsy, my doctor recommended a leep. I was devastated because I’m currently undergoing IVF and had an embryo transfer scheduled this month, so now I need to wait 6 months post procedure before I can conceive.
I spoke to the doctor two days before the procedure and I had numerous questions; he assured me that my cervix would be numbed with lidocaine and the procedure itself wouldn’t be super painful. Fast forward to the day of the procedure, the lidocaine injection was extremely painful, worse than iud insertion or removal. I could feel everything and screamed. They gave me another another lidocaine injection, and still no relief. Still felt pain after second lidocaine injection, and was given a third. STILL could feel the loop, which I would describe as someone burning me internally. They recommended I go under anesthesia at the local hospital and stopped the procedure.
I am truly out of my mind after going through that. I’ve been crying the last few hours and can’t stop. I know I need to make sure I don’t have cancer before I conceive, but I feel like the doctor could have discussed options with me and let me know exactly what to expect when I asked.
I am sharing because I think more awareness is needed surrounding this procedure. They only recommended 600mg of ibuprofen an hour before the procedure. Ask questions and advocate for yourself.
