Wire recommendations

I've always had those wires that come in the pottery starter kits, two wooden handles and wound up tightly, and I've reached a point where I hate them. They never lose the curl in the wire and unless you're really careful with them they develop a kink somewhere that makes them unusable for wiring off the wheel.

So, what wires do you recommend? Have you made your own (any tips?) or do you prefer a particular brand?
