Why isn’t renewable energy being largely adopted in the U.S now?

Despite technological advances and falling cost of renewables, there is still slow adoption globally, and particularly in the U.S compared to other developed countries. For the sake of simplicity, I am disregarding which energy production method is best for the environment, and focusing just on the monetary benefits / drawbacks of different production methods. Renewables (wind, solar) are now the cheapest form of energy production by levelized cost of energy (LCOE). Given this, and the high level of sentiment politicians in the U.S are putting on reducing energy cost, and increasing energy independence, do you think we should be accelerating the transition to renewable energy?
