Venam’s Kiss

New player here. I’m trying to defeat the first gym and having issues. Is Venam’s signature move, Venam’s Kiss, not pure poison type? Whenever she hits my Klink with it, it’s super effective. Is this a bug or a feature? Her Serviper is kicking my ass.
