This update makes me confused

I play here and there in ps99 but i just don't understand this update. For example, i have 31 pencils and if i do a doodle battle with the starter cat i can still lose?? Recommended pencils 1? My taps just dont count, its completely randomized

And the doodle jar? The doodle jar just stays there at 99%, there's no 100%? Am i just dumb?
