Period symptom management
It’s been years since I found a way to improve my experience during periods and I wanted to share.
I’m working with my dr through the steps to address heavy periods that are making me borderline anemic and are very painful.
I’m in my 40s and the only options I ever really thought I had were pads or tampons. I find tampons uncomfortable, so I’ve just used pads my whole life. They simply don’t cut it anymore. No matter how often I change I bleed through.
I was shopping and saw menstrual discs. On a whim bought a box of disposable ones and wow what a difference they’ve made. They aren’t perfect, but they’re comfortable (for me) and slow my flow to a tiny trickle.
Between the disc and a boatload of ibuprofen, I can make it through the day at maybe 75-80% baseline normal feeling.
For other women my age: no one is out there coaching or informing women about alternatives to pads and tampons. It’s a crime that this isn’t a normal topic with gyns.
Anyway—just wanted to share a positive development. 🙂
