Question about EA access

Hi, something is unclear for me and maybe you know the answer. I received an EA key for lifetime support, and I gave it away to a friend, knowing that I would buy another pack and get that key. On the website, it says that access is granted after buying the supporter pack, but I can't add it to the library on Steam. I can't activate the key on the website or the Steam. I know that in the FAQ, it says I don't need to do anything after purchasing it, but I want it to be on Steam.
