Improved Mining Efficiency while Mounted

Various pals have an ability that says they improve mining efficiency while mounted but they’re all too tall to reach ores while mounted, so are these abilities useless? Am I using them wrong? Or is the increase just so minuscule that I’m not noticing it in action
