Looking for an old cabbage recipe.

My mother-in-law has described a cabbage dish her grandmother would make for the holidays for the past four years now and I’d like to try to recreate it for her.

Shredded cabbage, possibly cooked in bacon fat, she thinks vinegar was then added, along with cream to kind or curdle it. That’s all I’ve got. I’ve googled and see some creamed cabbage recipes, but she doesn’t think that’s what it is.

Is anyone familiar with any dishes like this and have a recipe?
