Is 4K Wasted on a 26.5” Display?
I’ve been thinking a lot about the new upcoming 4K 26.5” QD-OLED monitors and whether or not 8,294,400 pixels in such a small space will be justifiable.
I remembered the PG32UCDM has a 27” mode that uses a 3288 X 1850 resolution at 139 PPI. At a viewing distance of 24.6” this panel becomes retina and almost impossible to distinguish individual pixels at that point.
I played around with a few different games at a viewing distance of 20” away and while it appeared pretty sharp I thought how nice it would be to add 2,211,600 pixels to a slightly smaller display area.
Technically the new 4K panels are 26.5” and at a resolution of 3840 X 2160 you can move up 4” in your viewing distance and still not be able to distinguish individual pixels. That honestly sounds like the perfect display for me aside from a max refresh rate of 240Hz.
I own both the PG32UCDM and PG27ADQP and am wanting to consolidate and believe the PG27UCDM will be just the ticket.
Yes, 4K on a 26.5” display is definitely justifiable if you don’t have a deep desk, feel 32” is too large, or still aren’t happy with how text appears at 139 PPI.
