Possibly transphobic friend

Okay, so just a quick little vent post, since I don't know who else to say this to.

So there's this friend, that I've had for atleast 6 years now, and he's wonderful to talk to, and we have so much in common to talk about, we're nerdy about the same topics etc.

But here's the thing, I've heard him deadname 3 trans celebrities before like Elliot Page and the Wachowski sisters etc. I've also heard him use the term (though only once) "man who identifies as a woman" but I don't even remember the context. He also laughed at a video game NPC being kind of non-binary ish a couple of years ago. He seems like a very unconfrontational guy, so he doesn't often talk about trans topics at all, but he's had some questionalbe comments, a little too many for me not to think he might be transphobic.

Now the question is, is he really transphobic, or just ignorant? If he really is transphobic I don't think I can ever come out to him, but if he's really just ignorant he should be able to learn from his mistakes. What are you people's take on this?
