Do Americans use bricks in building houses?
I’ve been watching these horrific videos of the heartbreaking devastation in LA, I feel for all those people losing everything they built throughout their lives…
…but these houses, man, it’s like everything is aflame - the walls, the roof, the foundations. I saw a photo that showed only a fireplace lay where the charred remains of a house that once stood there - the only thing made of bricks and concrete.
I live in Croatia, Europe. The thing is, everywhere around tis part of the world, from my small country to our far bigger neighbours, the foundation of a house is concrete with a steel skeleton. The walls are bricks and isolation materials. The roofs are tile. Don’t get me wrong, homes burn to the ground here as well, but the bricks and building materials mostly stat in place, sure the roof collapses into itself but the walls tend to stand in the aftermath.
And these are, as far as I can see, houses of very wealthy people, mansions, in very wealthy neighbourhoods.
I’m very sorry if I’m missing something, I’m not trying to be an asshole, I’m just wondering how LA/USA homes are built.
