How does promoting video works?

Hi! Has anyone noticed any patterns after publishing a video that determine whether some videos land immediately in the “recommended videos” section or only on the YouTube homepage? I’ve observed that videos promoted mainly on the YouTube homepage tend to get significantly more clicks and have a greater potential to reach a wider audience.

What has your experience been with this? Have you noticed something similar?

I’m wondering how to increase my chances of having my videos appear on other users’ homepages rather than in the recommended section.
