People stealing your content on Youtube
Hi,
I have a pretty small channel where I post educational videos using 3D modelled animations and stuff. One of my video which I worked quite hard did really well.
One day I saw a youtube short where some guy just took half of my video (my video is only around 1 minute long) sped it up, put some bg music, and a meme on top of it. And this video is getting ton of views. Upon searching further there are 4 more videos like it.
So, first I tried to contact them. But there's no email on their About section. So, I commented on these videos to credit me. Only one of them responded. He just justified it and said there are a lot of others doing the same thing. And he didn't even credit me even after asking.
So, I copyright striked all of them. 3 out of 4 of them are removed by now. The other one will be removed soon I guess.
So, how do you guys deal with these things? Do you also had similar experiences.
And, do you think I'm overreacting? I believe in fair-use. It should be fair use to cut like a 5 second clip from a 2 hour movie and use it for a small section of your video. But isn't taking almost half of a 1 minute video and doing some basic video editing on it and posting it without adding anything to it just stealing it? And they don't even have the common courtesy to credit the original creator.
There are a lot of these low-effort shorts channels these days which just steal content i guess.
