I made a petition to make Bourbon & Royal Streets pedestrian only. Please help show City Council how important this is.
I know petitions don’t do anything in and of themselves, but 9 years ago I made a petition to keep the pedestrian mall in place when Brennans was trying to remove it & it made them back down - so here’s to hoping showing City Council that there is support will help.
I’m raising a family in the Quarter & own a business on Royal Street so I know the issues with this but am dedicated to protecting the Quarter.
This past week we were devastated to see the attack in our home, and are further devastated by the lack of a real response from the city or state. Bourbon Street is somehow even more susceptible to an attack today than it was on New Years Eve.
Something has to be done. We need to take action. We need to ban cars from Bourbon Street & Royal Street to ensure this never happens here again. These essential blocks are already pedestrian zones during certain hours - we need to expand them and make them permanent & fortified pedestrian zones.
Issues with this plan can be solved. Bigger cities with more tourists & more history have pedestrian only areas that function well and keep people safe. Deliveries can be made, handicapped residents can get to their homes. But with the right mix of technology & process - an attack like this could not happen again.
Please help show City Council how important this is.
