“You should start a business!”
Just a little rant from family and friend interactions with my needlepointing: I started stitching 2.5 years ago after following along with designers and some well-known stitchers in the community for a solid year. I’ve shared some projects on my personal social media and recently shared my needlepoint instagram to family and friends who want to follow along and see what I’m doing. Now for the rant into the void-I have gotten so many people telling me I should start an Etsy or a business with my FINISHED WORK. And in my head I’m like “That’s now how this works, that’s not how any of this works!!” Usually my response is me laughing it off and gently telling them that no this is my hobby and these are other people’s art (canvases) to create something for myself and my own personal use. I gifted a new ornaments over Christmas and had been told how great it would be to sell these. I’m tired. Just now I got a DM from a family member about my WIP I shared on my stories: FM (family member): This would be a fun Etsy shop Me: What would? FM: Selling your stitches! I wanted to throw my phone across the room. It has really showed me how clueless the general public is about this craft. I have great respect for designers and fortunately have enough common sense to read the room within the needlepoint community. Just thought I would share about this ironic interaction given the copyright drama that has come to a head with newbies and designers. Has anyone else had to have these conversations?
