What happened with 'Everybody wants to rule the world'?

I've been travelling in the US for past 2 months and heard this song on the radio literally at least once every hour (while back home it is not that popular now). I acknowledge this is a good song, but has there anything specific happened recently that made this song super popular again? I'm curious. What did I miss?
